Lightning McQueenie #95
Significance of Name/Number: Lightning McQueenie is a mash-up of two totally different parts of my life, past and present. The Lightning McQueen reference comes from my family's love of everything Disney/Pixar, and the character from the animated film "Cars." It was my son's first "favorite" movie, and he has since collected nearly a hundred of the die-cast characters and a room-full of other "Cars" toys. When we took him to Disneyland and California Adventure for his third birthday in 2013 he was completely enamored with Cars Land and Lightning McQueen. The number, 95, is Lightning McQueens number, and 1995 marks the year I went to Disneyland for the first time. The Queenie reference comes from my high school years. I was a cheerleader, and during football season we wore nylons/pantyhose under our uniforms to keep warm. Being so tall, I had to wear the "Queen Sized" hose. My dad saw the package in the garbage can and started calling me Queenie. Obviously I was not amused, and hated him for it, but senior year I was nominated for, and won, Homecoming Queen...so the nickname obviously stuck.
Likes: Everything Disney and Pixar, genuine people, my career as a middle school teacher, hiking, reading, playing video games and board games, visiting Disneyland, barbecues with friends, shopping, making new friends, and, most importantly, spending time with my husband Jesse and my son Argent.
Dislikes: I am not a fan of self-obsessed people, or people who prefer the company of their cell phones to the company they are with. Also, I detest people who make others wait around for them, taking "selfies", smokers, mean spirited jokes, and parents who neglect their children.
Hometown: Burien, Washington
Occupation: Teacher at Morgan Middle School
Favorite After-Party Beverage: something fruity and slushy with whipped cream and a thousand calories
Derby Birthday: March 16th, 2014
BIO: I was born and raised in Burien, a suburb of Seattle, but after a sudden move I completed high school in Cle Elum. I met the love of my life on a school bus when I was 15, and the two of us have been together ever since. After graduating high school I moved to Ellensburg to attend Central Washington University in pursuit of a degree in Middle Level Education. After graduating, my husband Jesse and I officially started our family and celebrated the arrival of our son, Argent, in August of 2010. I am currently living out my dream of teaching middle school, and teach grades six through eight at Morgan Middle School in Ellensburg. I am completely new to roller derby (and competitive sports in general) and hope to make many new friends during my roller-journey.

"This skater just graduated fresh meat, and has already taken on a leadership role. She's energetic and encourages everyone else, and isn't shy about stepping in to help. Weenie watering hole anyone?"
"Lightning has thrown herself head first into roller derby and our league! Always giving her all at practice and volunteer time to help our league grow!"
